Healing our Men

The loss of cultural connection has caused men to forget how to care for themselves, their families, and their nations. In our indigenous communities, this disconnection comes from a long history of discriminatory laws, residential schools, and various forms of abuse. When left unhealed, this disconnection perpetuates violence against women, addiction, loss of family, separation and a loss of identity.

Many of our men turn to alcohol and substance abuse to mask the pain and suffering induced by these violations. Our Elders are here to guide our men towards a healthy relationship with themselves, which brings them a higher level of self-esteem. We create a safe space for men to begin or continue their path towards healing through ceremony, teachings, and time on the land.

We host Men's Retreats with partner organizations that share our approach to holistic healing. One such organization is the All My Relations program of Together We Can Drug and Alcohol Recovery and Education Society, located in the Lower Mainland. Our 3-4 day retreats allow men to leave the city and reconnect with our original teacher — the land. Surrounded by sacred mountains and clean water, men can do the necessary work to heal themselves.
